Who i am

Mission Statement

To tell the truth — even the hard parts — so that anyone walking through illness, addiction, or uncertainty feels a little less alone.

Who I Am

Beneath The Noise Publishing is just me — Matthew Saunders — trying to put something honest and human into the world. I’m not a company, a team, or a polished brand with a staff behind it. I’m a husband, a father, a cancer survivor, and someone who has lived through more than I ever expected to.

I started this imprint because Normal: A Lifetime of Disabilities, Addictions, and Diagnoses is personal in every possible way. It’s my story — shaped by illness, addiction in the family, fear, resilience, love, and the small moments that kept me moving when everything else felt like it was falling apart.

Writing Normal helped me make sense of the chaos. Publishing it under my own imprint lets me share it the way it was meant to be told — without filters, without someone else shaping the narrative.

There’s no corporate office. No editorial board. It’s just me, sitting at a desk (or a couch, or a hospital chair), doing my best to turn real life into words and send those words into the world with intention.

If you’re here, thank you. Truly. It means more than you know. If this story reaches you at a moment when you need it, or helps you feel understood, then every late-night writing session — and every difficult chapter of my life — will have been worth it.

With gratitude,
Matthew Saunders

Jacob, Olivia, Matthew, Christina, and Alex — the heart of every chapter, every fight, and every reason to keep going.
